Title: Types and Teaching Methods of Performers’ “Retraining”

Abstract: At present, the performing arts industry has an increasing demand for outstanding acting talent, and the industry ecosystem has become more diverse. Consequently, various training institutions, methods, and course offerings have emerged, effectively addressing the retraining needs of film and theater performers. Based on their operational methods, training institutions in this field can be categorized into specialized training institutions and those that offer training as part of their broader business. Notable examples include Shanxia Acting School, Liu Tianchi Acting Workshop, Beijing People’s Art Theatre, Lai Shengchuan “goes to” theater and numerous independent theater training groups. They either conduct systematic professional training or “acting instead of training” as a mode of cultivation, and their training programs reflect the characteristics of relevance and inheritance. These training institutions have explored fruitful paths for performers’ re-cultivation and made positive contributions to the development of China’s film and theater industry.

Keywords: Performer Retraining; Specialized Training; Affiliated Acting Training; Systematic Teaching; Training through Performance.
