Title: Cross-cultural Communication of New Guochao: A Study on the Communication Effectiveness of Animated Films among Russian Students in China

Abstract: This study examines the cross-cultural communication of New Guochao animated films, focusing on three representative works: Ne Zha 2, The Little Monsters of Langlang Mountain, and White Snake: Origin. Targeting Russian students in China, the research systematically investigates their reception dynamics. Employing qualitative methods, in-depth interviews were conducted to analyze how audiences decode traditional cultural symbols and modern values within these films. The findings reveal distinct hierarchical patterns in communication effectiveness: “low-context” content, featuring visual spectacles and universal emotions is most effectively resonates, forming an “emotional interface”; “high-context” content rich in historical and cultural metaphors encounters significant “cultural discount”, creating “cognitive barriers”; meanwhile, the modern reinterpretation of traditional elements becomes pivotal for stimulating young audiences’ “negotiated decoding” and deep cultural dialogue. Building on this, the study develops a three-dimensional efficacy model of “emotional connection—cognitive barriers—meaning negotiation”, aiming to provide theoretical frameworks and practical insights for internationalizing Chinese film content.
